We are what we are.  And they are what they are.

That is probably the best way to look at the humbling taking-apart of my beloved Hokies this past Saturday night.  It should have been apparent to most anyone who watched this game that LSU was simply the better team.  In pretty much every aspect of the game, they soundly defeated a team that – while embarrassed – is still a fine football team.

But, football in the south is a different brand of football.  And by south, I mean a lot closer to the equator than dear old Blacksburg.  No, I’m referring to the deep south.  Where even lineman have mind-blowing 40 times.  We received a very tidy, clear lesson in what raw speed, sound coaching, and innate talent can yield on a football field.

After allowing the slim hope of victory leave my mind, I was able to set back and marvel at this truly awesome display.  Sure, I wish it hadn’t been my alma mater on the receiving end – just as I did several years ago when we played Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart and the soon-t0-be national champion USC Trojans (although we did give them a very tough game).

Could it be that we’ve once again been victimized by the impending national champions?  The season is still early, but you can count me as a believer.  If the those same Bayou Bengal Tigers show up for their remaining games, we’ll be watching them hoist the crystal football in New Orleans in a little less than 4 months.

Meanwhile, we’ll circle the wagons and go after another ACC title behind the arms and legs of Tyrod Taylor – which is exciting in its own right.

We are the Hokies.
